A downloadable strategy game for Windows and Linux
Zero-K is a free, multi-platform, open-source strategy game in which massive robot armies fight in an endless conflict. A powerful interface allows players to easily execute their economic, strategic, and tactical decisions. Units interact intuitively, using realistic projectile and movement physics. It boasts over 100 diverse units including Tanks, Ships, Hovercraft, Planes, Gunships, Spiders, and dozens of other different robots offering unique strategic options and a dynamic combat style.
Interesting game modes with cunning AI
Wage war alone or with up to 32 players, teams or free-for-all. Clash with other robot armies or band together and prove yourself worthy against hordes of alien sharp-taloned beasts. Survive long enough to summon the monstrous Queen for a final struggle. Both survival and skirmish modes feature adaptable and fair-playing AI, providing an exhaustive range of difficulty levels.
Powerful, easy-to-grasp interface
Tactical possibilities aren't limited by one's dexterity; instead, the interface has been designed such that anyone can easily command hundreds of units at the same time. Battle formations can be drawn intuitively in any shape. Units can be given detailed commands or use their tactical AI to execute more general orders intelligently. The interface can be entirely rearranged, customized and extended with community-made add-ons.
Zero-K is all about making combat engaging. With a streamlined economy and a focus on mobile units, the game is always in motion. Terraforming and realistic explosions mean that the battlefield is ever changing. Every unit has its specialties and can be countered by the right strategy. Zero-K also boasts a flat tech tree; all units are available from the start of each game with no research or buildup required.
The Planet Wars are a MMO campaign set on top of Zero-K. Players join a faction or an aligned clan fighting their way to galactic dominance. Successful commanders will capture planets and climb the ranks to lead an entire faction. These campaigns usually last a few weeks each and will be announced beforehand.
Made by players, for players
All developers are themselves RTS veterans and active Zero-K players. The game is entirely non-profit, focusing on competitiveness and fun instead. Regular community tournaments are used to confirm the balance and viability of many varied strategies. New features are often inspired directly from forum discussions, opening the development process up to anyone interested in it.
